Christianity in a Word

Have you ever thought about what you would call Christianity if you only had one word to do it?

Check out this cool video that does just that and then some.

This site is promoting the Bible and the need for an online bible study. Think this may be worth checking out

Think they nail it on the word…this is Christianity in a word. Let me know what you think.

Easter Brings Me Back

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new

I love Easter it is my favorite holiday because it is when Jesus won the complete and total victory. I don’t know what it is about me but I love to win. How many of you like to win? I would guess the number is pretty high.

Winning involves risk doesn’t it? Don’t you have to enter the contest or event to have a chance to win. On of the biggest problems in the church today (I know you are saying “Here he goes again”) is most people do not enter in. What do I mean exactly?

You must first decide you are going to join the team and enter into this game of life before you will ever have a chance to win. Jesus enter in over 2000 years ago, He poured Himself into His life and look at the result. Total victory! He conquered, sin, the grave, death, Satan, sickness, disease…you name it He defeated it.

How did He do it? Well the first step was agreeing to become involved. He had to make a decision to first come to Earth, that just got the ball rolling. Every day He had a choice to make, and every day He made the right choice. What an example He left us.

When I look at the life and death of Jesus I see a Man that was focused on a goal. He came to destroy the works of the enemy. Satan had all of mankind bound in sin. In one act, Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary He totally destroyed the grip Satan had on God’s people.

Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, He is making intersession for you and me right it this very moment. I believe He is wanting us to finish the race He has made each and every one of us to run. God made you for a purpose, find out what that purpose is and get in the race (or back in the race if you are like me)

I enjoy writing to this blog but it some times gets a little difficult to find the time and energy. Hopefully it will help to encourage you as you read this, that’s my goal. May God bless you today and every day.

As a side note- I am opening a new Christian Clothing store online, starting to stock it and get everything in order. I am selling Christian T Shirts and Christian hats, basically Christian Apparel. Those of you how know me, know God gave me a vision to take back the clothing industry for His glory. A race I have stumbled and fallen in many times, I was down not out. Go by and check it out (hopefully we will have a Grand Opening Easter…Did I mention I Love Easter?)

Until next time, remember: You overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony, and by becoming a living sacrifice. Revelation 12:11

Before I teach on personal evangelism for the body of Christ, I must first give you the most important first step in becoming an effective witness for Jesus.

You need to become like Christ.  That’s it, simple enough, right?  Every believer who becomes like Jesus is a powerful tool in the hand of God.  I can hear you saying,”yeah right, I’m not anything like Jesus”.  That is where you and I may disagree.

Know what You are and Who You are in Christ

It is my opinion your spirit, if you are “born again”, is exactly like Jesus.  So 33% of you is exactly like Jesus.  Since you are made up of 3 parts (body, soul and spirit) you need only to get one of the other 2 parts to be more like Jesus and you have a simple majority.

Since the body or “flesh” is enmity with God, you can never change the “flesh”. The flesh is constantly at war with the spirit so by the process of elimination it is your soul that must change.

The soul is defined (by me) as, your mind, will, and emotions.  It is the person you are inside of your body.  By renewing your mind with the word of God you help your soul to think like Jesus.  (This is moving beyond the personal evangelism teaching but some of this needs to be taught.  for those of you new here, I occasionally chase rabbits)

“So what does this have to do with personal evangelism?”, you may be asking. Well, nothing and everything, you are made in God’s image, three parts, all different but the same.  Get to know yourself, what you have, who you are in Christ and witnessing becomes much easier.

Did Jesus have a problem drawing a crowd?  As I read the Gospels Jesus loved and was loved.  He lived with the people, taught in their synagogues, healed the sick and preached the gospel. (Matthew 4:23-25)

I think this simple pattern is the key to growing “the church”, not a church, The Church.  While some focus on numbers only, the simplistic model Jesus used is all we need.  Notice what the Bible says in Matthew 4:24: Then His fame went throughout all Syria…then in Matthew 4:25: Great multitudes followed Him…

Personal Evangelism Starts with Knowing Christ

Personal evangelism starts with knowing Christ and then doing what Jesus did.  Teach, preach and heal, this is the “Jesus” model for the church. (as I see it)  How simple, almost too simple, teach people the Bible, preach the good news and heal the sick.

No church could hold the multitude that would follow this kind of evangelism. Preach (spirit), teach (soul) and heal (body)…we are spirit, soul and body and Jesus touched/ministered to the complete person (all three parts) and the multitude followed.

The church is made up of individual believers, personal evangelism begins when believers spend time with Jesus and then go out “among” the people.  Many today go to church, hear a message on evangelism, feel guilty and then attempt to witness to people.  This is bound to fail, your motivation is okay (help people) but there is no power.

Again look to Jesus, He spent time in prayer with God, so much time in fact He was able to declare God and I are One. (John 17:22-24) When you spend time with Jesus every day, you begin to think like He thinks. (Ever heard of having the mind of Christ)

Here is a real life example: My wife and I spend so much time together we start to finish each others sentences or we know what the other person is thinking.  This is normal with any relationship where time, trust and communication are present.

The difference, between my relationship with my wife and my relationship with Jesus; I can sometimes influence my wife’s thinking. The same is not true when I spend time with Jesus, as I read the word it clearly states God does not change.  Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.  If anyone changes, when you and Jesus spend time together, it will be you.

Want to be more like Jesus? You must believe part of you (your spirit) is already exactly like Him. Part of you (your body) will never be like Him. (Until you get a new body)  The part that can change (your soul) takes time and effort with Jesus to become more like Him.  This is where the battle rages (In your mind, will and emotions) so before you learn to go out into the battle. You must first learn to go into the presence of God.

Until next time, remember: You overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony, and by becoming a living sacrifice. Revelation 12:11

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

Did God send you to save the world?  Me either.   So what are you and I suppose to do?

Jesus “commissioned” us to preach the “good news” to every creature.  Some have taken this to mean, talk to everyone, everywhere, anytime.  People have been “witnessed to” whether they want to listen or not.

Christians seem pushy and self righteous trying to “help” people find Jesus.  What did Jesus mean?  Far be it from me to speak for God or tell you the proper translation of our title verse but I must weigh in.

Jesus commissioned us to share the Gospel but instead of trying to figure out what He means with His words, why not look at what He did?

Jesus walked day by day, healing the sick, cleansing the lepers and making blind eyes see. (Oh yeah, He raised the dead too!)  If we as believers would imitate Christ the world would beg to learn more.

Have you ever been invited to a network marketing meeting?  The person inviting you has been trained to tell you just enough to get your curiosity up.  Don’t mention the name of the company…get them to the meeting.  Don’t try to explain it…get them to the meeting.

Sounds a little like trying to get people to church.  Some believers don’t know enough about Jesus to tell others about Him, so they invite them to church.  They are “afraid” they might mess it up so instead of saying the “wrong” thing…they say nothing.  What is the answer?

In my humble opinion, the church needs to work on its personal relationship with Jesus before they brow beat others about their lifestyle, choices or sin.

Jesus lead by example. The church must also lead.  But here are the facts, the divorce rate, bankruptcy and sickness in the church is very similar to that outside of the church.  Why would anyone “looking in” choose to join the church?

The only reason, as you know, is Jesus.  He is the real and only true God.  Through faith in His name, blind eyes are opened, deaf ears hear again and the dead become alive.  Easy right?  Should be, but in all honesty, most of us are still on the sidelines wondering how to get in the game.

Here is what we believe is our first step, believe the word of God. Notice I did not say believe what I think or any one else thinks…no, I said, get to know the word of God.

Here is the part that will mess with your head, Jesus is the word of God.  The closer you get to Jesus, the closer you get to the Truth (which is also Jesus)

Until next time, remember: You overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony, and by becoming a living sacrifice. Revelation 12:11

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

Have you ever had one of those days?  I got up early, went to a men’s prayer meeting and was enjoying a great time visiting and then looked down.

Looking Down at Shoes

The start of a new day

If you notice from the above picture, these shoes had shoe strings, which means someone had to tie them.   Wow, when I looked down during the meeting a rush of emotions came over me.  The first was embarrassment, next came shame, then I became self-centered.  This all happened in a blink of an eye and I remember my mind drifting to what the other men were thinking or what they would think, when they all discovered what an idiot looked like.

The Holy Spirit stepped back into the mix and reminded me this meeting wasn’t about me, the men were here to worship and praise Jesus.  What a revelation, while my whole mental world was starting to spin out of control, the simple mention of Jesus’ name brought everything back into perspective.

There are many lessons I learned this morning…but number one; It is all about Jesus!  Take your eyes off of yourself today and look to Jesus.  He really can bring peace to your storms.

How many times a day do you think it is all about you?  When that thought hits me today I will remember the lesson I learned a long time ago and was reminded of this morning in living color…Jesus took care of all of this over 2000 years ago.  Thank you again Jesus, for all You have done for us.

The lessons I learned this morning will be shared with you in the next few posts.  May God help you to keep your eyes on my Lord and Savior, Jesus. By the way, no one in the meeting even noticed my shoes.
